PLASTER WORK CALCULATION

1. PLASTER WORK ESTIMATION

A man is plastering a  brick wall

The amount of cement mortar required for 1m2 coverage on wall for a plaster work.
Let the thickness of the plaster for one coat external rendering be 15mm.
The volume of a plaster per square meter is given as shown below
Volume = 1m x 1m 0.015m
            = 0.015m3
The dry volume of cement mortar for plaster can be calculated as follows
Dry volume = Wet volume x Wet to dry conversion factor (1.25 - 1.3)
                    = 0.015 x 1.30
                   = 0.0195m3
The mortar constituents can be calculated based on the cement sand mix ratio for example in our calculation we will use mix ratio 1:4 (cement: sand).
The cement volume can be calculated as shown below
Firstly 1+4 = 5 (division number)
Then, for cement we have 1/5 x 0.0195 = 0.0039m3
For sand also can be calculated as follows
Sand volume 4/5 x 0.0195 = 0.0156m3
For wall area other than 1m2 we have to multiply the quantity obtained above for 1m2 with new area then, we get the quantity of new area.

For example
If we do have a room of 42m2 as the wall area its cement plaster quantification will be as follows.
Quantity of cement = quantity per 1m2  x measured wall area
                                 = 0.0039x 42
                                  = 0.1638 m3
Quantity of sand      = quantity per 1m2  x measured wall area
                                 = 0.0156x 42
                                 = 0.6552 m3

The volume of plaster constituents (cement and sand) can be different per 1m2 due to different in mix ratio and thickness of the plaster.
